The state of Iowa has established regulations for the sale of water treatment systems. Under these regulations, any water treatment system sold in Iowa must first be certified by an independent, third-party testing agency, such as NSF, to be eligible for sale.
Once NSF certification is obtained, the system must also be registered with the Iowa Department of Public Health. A key challenge we face is that each configuration of our systems is treated as a separate unit by the state, requiring independent certification for each. The cost for certification is $800 per configuration.
Ultimately, the additional costs, taxes, and regulatory requirements have made it impractical for us to offer our systems in Iowa.
